October 17, 2026 — Some Hyatt guests who booked directly say they are getting WhatsApp messages that use their real names and stay dates and warn that their room will be given away unless they “confirm” within 24 hours. View from the Wing reported the messages on October 16. No breach has been confirmed.
What is happening
The messages arrive on WhatsApp from a sender named Pinnacle Teleservices, a real business-messaging provider. They show the guest’s correct name and dates, include confirm and cancel buttons and link to a look-alike website. They promise that no payment will be taken but say the guest may need to approve a text or a push notification. The report says the goal appears to be getting card details and getting the guest to approve a real charge.
Most reports involve Rio Las Vegas, and one guest had booked a free-night award through Hyatt’s app. Similar messages have been reported for Booking.com and Agoda bookings and a hotel in Paris, and Singapore police warned about hotel-related WhatsApp phishing on October 9. The article reports no statement from Hyatt and does not establish how the scammers got guest details.

What it means for travelers
- Do not use the message: Check any reservation through the Hyatt app or the phone number on your original confirmation, not through a link or button in a WhatsApp message.
- Never approve a surprise bank prompt: A real hotel does not need you to approve a bank push notification to “verify” a booking.
- Real details are not proof: A message that knows your name and dates can still be a scam.
- Stay alert if you book often: If you book many hotel stays, treat any message about a reservation with extra care. Tell family members who travel on your bookings to watch for them too.
