November 3, 2026 — Belarusian flag carrier Belavia (B2) can once again buy spare parts, components and software directly from Boeing after the US Department of Commerce granted Boeing a licence, according to reports in Simple Flying and One Mile at a Time.

Airline: Belavia (B2) · Country: Belarus

What happened

The US sanctioned Belarus in 2021 after the forced diversion of a Ryanair Boeing 737 flying from Greece to Lithuania, and added more sanctions in 2022 over Belarus’s support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. US sanctions on Belavia were first eased in September 2025. Since the restrictions, Belavia has had to get aircraft through middlemen; in 2025 it acquired Airbus A330s through what One Mile at a Time called a “fake Gambian airline.”

Belavia CEO Igor Tcherginets confirmed on October 31 that the airline can now obtain parts, components and software for its current aircraft directly from Boeing, and said the US Treasury had issued a similar authorisation earlier. The airline said the approval also opens the way to talks on buying aircraft directly. The reports rely on Belarusian sources; neither article cites a US government statement.

Some observers fear Boeing parts could reach Russia through Belarus. Simple Flying noted the approval could be reversed quickly if it were misused.

Belavia fleet (per Simple Flying, citing ch-aviation) Number
Boeing 737-800 8 (plus 1 private)
Boeing 737 MAX 8 1
Boeing 737-300 1
Boeing 767-300ER 1
Airbus A330-200 3
Embraer E175LR / E195LR 1 / 4

What it means for travelers

There is no immediate effect on travelers. The move is a rare easing of aviation sanctions and could lead to a Boeing order from Belavia. Whether that happens is not known.
