October 27, 2026 — JetBlue Airways (B6) widened its losses in the third quarter as jet fuel costs climbed, but the New York-based carrier is sticking with its goal of returning to steady profitability next year.

What happened

JetBlue released its July–September results on Monday, October 26. Revenue grew strongly on higher fares, but fuel costs grew faster, and the airline cut its full-year margin outlook.

Measure Q3 2026 Q3 2025
Revenue $2.812 billion (+21.1%) —
Net loss $257 million $143 million
Operating loss $144 million $100 million
Fuel expense $868 million (+61%) —
Average fare $245.11 (+19.2%) —
Load factor 83.6% (down 1.5 points) —
Capacity +2.3% —

Outlook

  • Full-year 2026: adjusted operating margin now expected at -6.5% to -4.5%, down from the -5% to -2% range given in July. The forecast assumes fuel at $3.95 a gallon, up from $3.49.
  • Fourth quarter: unit revenue up 18% to 22% year over year, unit costs excluding fuel roughly flat (-1% to +1%), and fuel assumed at $4.64 a gallon.
  • 2027 and 2028: CEO Joanna Geraghty is targeting “sustained operating profitability in 2027,” and at least $1 of earnings per share plus positive free cash flow in 2028.
  • Balance sheet: about $2.2 billion of total liquidity at the end of September, including a $600 million undrawn credit line. One Mile at a Time puts JetBlue’s debt at nearly $9 billion.

Product and network

JetBlue’s new domestic first-class cabin, BlueFirst, opened for sale on October 15 on more than 30 routes, with the first revenue flight scheduled for December 8 from Boston to Fort Lauderdale. Fort Lauderdale is the airline’s bright spot: unit revenue there rose nearly 15% even as capacity grew more than 65%, and JetBlue plans more than 150 peak daily departures from FLL this winter. No schedule cuts were announced with the results.

What it means for travelers

  • Fares are up. Load factor slipped 1.5 points to 83.6% in the quarter, so on average there was a little more room on board, but JetBlue is pushing fares higher.
  • Fort Lauderdale is the place to look. With more than 150 peak daily departures planned this winter, FLL offers the most frequencies and the most flight choices on JetBlue.
  • No cuts yet, but watch the schedule. JetBlue lowered its outlook on fuel costs and did not announce capacity cuts. If fuel stays high, check for winter schedule changes before planning trips on thinner routes.
