October 22, 2026 — Ghana has stepped up Ebola screening at its entry points, including the airport in Accra, after cases were confirmed in Kenya and Nigeria. Ghana has not reported any Ebola cases.

What was announced

  • Who: Ghana’s Ministry of Health, in a statement issued Wednesday, October 21, Citizen Digital reported.
  • Measures: Enhanced screening at entry points, including airport screening; monitoring of travelers arriving from affected areas; updated laboratory procedures; and information for travelers at the airport on Ebola symptoms and what to do if they fall ill.
  • Drills: Simulation exercises are being held at Accra International Airport and at the Ghana Infectious Disease Centre.
  • Why now: The ministry pointed to direct flights from Kenya, high passenger volumes, and frequent travel between Ghana and Nigeria.
  • Who must be screened: The ministry did not publish exact rules on which travelers are checked (TBA).

What it means for travelers

  • Allow extra time on arrival in Accra, especially if your trip starts in or connects through Nairobi or Nigeria.
  • Know your travel history. Be ready to say where you have been in the past 21 days.
  • Don’t travel if you have a fever. A temperature check could lead to further assessment and a missed connection.
  • For health advice, check the CDC Travelers’ Health pages or the Public Health Agency of Canada, and talk to a travel clinic before you go. Register with STEP (US) or Registration of Canadians Abroad.
