October 12, 2026 — Belgium’s public-services strike is disrupting trains and city transit today, Monday, October 12, and unions are already lining up more action: a decision on further strikes on November 9 and a threatened general strike in the week of November 23.

Today’s strike

  • Union: CGSP/ACOD, protesting the federal government’s budget.
  • Rail (SNCB): Reduced service from 10 p.m. Sunday until the last train Monday — about 7 in 10 intercity trains, 1 in 2 local and suburban trains, and few peak-hour P trains. Some stations are not served, and trains to Brussels Airport may not follow their usual route.
  • City transit: STIB in Brussels and De Lijn in Flanders are disrupted; STIB could not say in advance which lines would run. TEC services in Wallonia were still described as chaotic after a wildcat strike last Thursday.
  • Flights: Brussels Airport said the strike should not affect flights; the problem is getting there.
  • Eurostar: Some Brussels trains were cancelled on October 12, including 9141 and 9148. No strike cancellations were listed for October 13–14.

Coming up

  • CGSP will decide on further action on November 9.
  • The FGTB union has threatened a general strike in the week of November 23 (exact date TBA).

What it means for travelers

  • Flying into Brussels today, allow extra time to reach the city and check SNCB’s journey planner before leaving the terminal.
  • Booked on Eurostar from Brussels today? Check Eurostar’s travel updates page for cancelled trains and your options.
  • If you have travel planned for late November, watch for the FGTB general-strike date and check how it will affect trains and airports once details are published.
