October 9, 2026 — Update to our October 8 story. The opposition PTI march reached Peshawar on Thursday evening and has set overnight stops for the next three days, ending at Swabi on Sunday, October 11. Leaders say they will decide the next step there. No date has been given for a move on Attock or Islamabad.

What changed

  • Peshawar: The convoy reached the Hayatabad toll plaza at about 6 pm Thursday, Dawn reports.
  • Mobile and internet: Suspended in parts of Peshawar since Wednesday night. Restoration is TBA.
  • Airports and Islamabad: We found no new report on Friday of airport disruption, motorway closures or Islamabad road closures.
  • UK advice: Unchanged since September 22.

March schedule

Date Overnight stop
Fri Oct 9 Charsadda
Sat Oct 10 Mardan
Sun Oct 11 Swabi; next steps to be decided
After Oct 11 TBA

What it means for travelers

  • Islamabad (ISB) access looks unaffected through the weekend, but the march is moving toward the capital region.
  • Recheck on Sunday night. A decision at Swabi could bring road closures on the routes into Islamabad next week.
  • In Peshawar, do not rely on mobile data. Download tickets and maps, and agree on meeting points in advance.
  • Avoid the march route and any gathering.
