October 11, 2026 — The US State Department reissued its Yemen travel advisory on Saturday, October 10, keeping it at Level 4, “Do Not Travel,” as fighting between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis widened. On Sunday the Houthis said air strikes hit the capital, Sanaa, including its international airport.

The advisory

  • Issued by: US State Department, reissued October 10, 2026, according to the department’s advisory feed.
  • Level: Level 4 (Do Not Travel) → Level 4. No change in level. The feed does not say what was revised.
  • Stated reasons: terrorism, unrest, crime, health risks, kidnapping and landmines. The advisory covers the whole country, including the island of Socotra.
  • Aviation. The advisory text says Sanaa’s airport is closed to commercial flights and that the US Federal Aviation Administration bars US operators from the Sanaa flight information region. It notes Houthi missile and drone attacks since July 2026, including on infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
  • The State Department’s Yemen country page still showed an older version when we opened it, so the October 10 date rests on the feed.

On the ground

  • Sanaa. The Houthis reported two air strikes on Sanaa on Sunday, October 11, including the international airport, and blamed Saudi Arabia, the Associated Press and the Times of Israel reported. Saudi Arabia had not commented and no casualty figure was given.
  • Wider conflict. The strikes follow Saturday’s attack on Riyadh’s airport, which killed 12 people. The Saudi-led coalition has promised a firm response, and President Trump said the US may join strikes on the Houthis. See our Saudi Arabia story.
  • Aden. Tracking site Safe Airspace reports that a missile landed near the runway at Aden airport this month as a flight from Cairo was approaching, and that the flight diverted to Jeddah. It gives no date.

What it means for travelers

  • Do not travel to Yemen. The advisory says not to go for any reason and names Socotra specifically.
  • No way out by air. Sanaa has no commercial service and Aden’s airport has come under fire. A cancelled flight could leave you stranded in a war zone.
  • Insurance. Many travel policies exclude acts of war or destinations under a do-not-travel advisory. Check before you assume you are covered.
  • Nearby routes. The fighting is disrupting flights across Saudi Arabia. If you are connecting in the Gulf, read our Saudi Arabia story and check your airline’s alerts.
