Hanalei Bay Kauai (14851281055)

October 1, 2026 — Kauai’s 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is welcoming guests again. The luxury resort in Princeville reopened on Monday, September 30, after Hurricane Lowell knocked out power and battered the island’s North Shore earlier in September.

According to The Garden Island, the resort’s spa and some of its restaurants restarted service a day earlier, on Sunday, September 29, with the full hotel following on Monday. Management says inspections found no structural damage; the storm’s impact came from strong wind gusts, heavy rain and island-wide power outages. All guest rooms, restaurants and resort amenities are now reported to be operating.

Managing Director Marcus A. Loevenforst said the team looks forward to helping guests “reconnect with nature.”

To bring visitors back, the resort has launched a Kauai Community Relief Fund package: up to 30% off stays, with $50 from each booking going to the Kauai Strong Fund at the Hawaii Community Foundation.

The reopening comes several weeks after the storm. In mid-September, Travel Weekly reported that the resort was running on generator power and allowing guests booked through September 16 to reschedule without penalty, while other island properties, including the Grand Hyatt Kauai and the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach, were working toward reopenings around September 19–20.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Fly into Lihue (LIH). It is Kauai’s main airport, and Princeville is on the North Shore, so plan on a drive across the island after you land.
  • Not everything on the North Shore is back yet. On September 28, Kauai County said some roads were still cut off and that debris crews were working from Wainiha through Hāʻena wherever roads allowed. Check kauairecovers.org for road status before you go.
  • More weather possible this week. The county’s September 28 update said outer rain bands from Hurricane Nolo, passing well southwest of the islands, could bring 3–6 inches of rain to Kauai through Thursday. Standby travelers should allow extra time in case flights are disrupted.
  • Booking. The relief package is the published discount. Today’s reports do not mention travel-industry or airline-employee rates, so ask the resort or check your employee travel portal before booking.
  • Existing bookings. Guests whose stays were moved after the storm should confirm their new dates directly with the hotel.
